The Petroglyph sign for "Blood. The pertoglyph sign for Blood, Rain, and Snow are all somewhat simular. The Blood sign uses wavy lines while the Rain sign uses straight lines and the snow sign will use dots or wavy lines. The hand sign for blood is to hold your right hand in front of your mouth with your first and second fingers against your nostrils, move your hand downward in a wavy motion. The hand sign for snow is to hold the hands extended (fingers and thumbs pointing down) in front of face, lower hands in circular zigzags, to indicate whirling snow. For rain, hold your hands closed in front of your face, near each other with the back of the hands up; lower hands by wrist action and open hands while doing so.
Most petroglyphs are nothing more than a simulation of Indian sign language. The problem arises when the use of a sort of "short hand" is employed, or the site has been chalked so that layer dating is impossible.
